All the servers we use are hosted by professional datacentres, and managed 24x7 by their professional technicians and server administrators. In the event of a web hosting problem with one of the servers or server networks, it may not immediately appear on this page, however the datacentre technicians will usually have already identified the issue, and will be working on resolving it as soon as they can. Please don't be alarmed if there currently appears to be an issue with a server, but it doesn't yet appear on this page, as we operate this page independently from the datacentres. This page will also normally only be updated during normal New Zealand business hours.

If you are experiencing an issue with your Website Hosting or Email, please also check our Troubleshooting Your Website FAQs or our Troubleshooting Your Email FAQs, to make sure that the problem isn't at your end or with your ISP, home/office network, or your computer..

RSS Subscribe Christmas Message 2011
Posted on 18/12/11 08:21PM

As 2011 draws to a close, we would like to wish all our clients a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We also thank you all for your continued support of our services.

2011 has been a milestone year for us, as we celebrated our 10th year in business. We proud to now be one of New Zealands longest serving web hosting providers, providing some of the best quality and most reliable hosting services in NZ

2011 has been a very tough year for many New Zealanders. Again we had had another major earthquake in Christchurch, but this time with the loss of many lives. As well as this, we have had a continued recession, which has had a major affect on many people and businesses in New Zealand. Here's hoping that 2012 will only be filled with good news.

During the Christmas break, our main office will be closed between 23rd December till the 10th January, and there will be limited email support during this time. However, as usual the server technicians at the datacentres will continue to look after the servers 24/7 365 days of the year, and will fix any issues should they occur. We do also have an emergency support form on our website, which can be accessed from the contact page (fees do apply for emergency after hours support not related to server/network outages).

Service Upgrades on our NO LIMITS web hosting plans

Here are the latest services upgrades we have completed in the past couple of months:

  • Our PHP5.3 cluster is online! Perfect for hosting applications such as Joomla and Wordpress.
  • MS SQL 2008 is now available as a database option, replacing 2K.
  • The latest control panel release was pushed out a couple of weeks ago fixing a large number of bugs and adding some nice features.

That's it for this year. I hope you all have a merry Christmas and happy New Year.

RSS Subscribe Proactive Malware Detection Software Installed on Premium Cpanel Plans
Posted on 16/12/11 12:48PM

We have introduced a new malware detection system for all of our Premium Cpanel servers, named Maldetect. It is an anti-malware project that has proved to be an effective solution against the use of virii/malware on servers. We have initiated full scans on the servers and have detected some malware files on current user accounts. We have incorporated the maldetect software to check apache (web) and ftp uploads. During the uploading of files to the servers, either via ftp or apache (web), maldetect software will scan the file(s) and it will not allow the upload if a file has a signature matching a virus/malware.

Why do we need maldetect ?

Our servers have many different types of software installed by our users, such as wordpress, joomla, other CMS and even custom made scripts. All of this software may become vulnerable over the course of time, and these need to be updated by clients in a timely manner in-order to prevent vulnerabilities. However, many users fail to update their software in a timely manner and these become a threat to the server security. Hackers can then use the vulnerability associated with the software to execute or upload virus/malware. This is where maldetect steps in! Even if a hacker tries to upload a virus file using an affected site, maledetect will usually prevent it.

Example Situation:

FTP case: There can be situations where a clients computer can be infected with a virus and the saved user/passwords in the ftp client software installed on the user computer may be leaked. When a hacker gets this information, he will try to upload virus/malware to the server for execution. Here also, the maldetect becomes handy, preventing the hacker from uploading viruii/malware to the server.

In addition to scanning files on upload, we also have an automated scanner that will go through all web accessible files on the server which have been modified in the past 2 days.

What is maldetect in technical terms?

Regarding technical details of maledetect, Linux Malware Detect (LMD) is a malware scanner for Linux , that is designed around the threats faced in shared hosted environments. It uses threat data from network edge intrusion detection systems to extract malware that is actively being used in attacks and generates signatures for detection.

Example Output:
Detected Threats:
LMD has a total of 7,241 (5393 MD5 / 1848 HEX) signatures , below is a listing of the top 60 threats by prevalence detected by LMD:

RSS Subscribe New CPanel and Webmail Login URLs
Posted on 15/12/11 07:12PM

This announcement ONLY applies to clients on our Premium Grade CPanel branded web hosting plans.

Due to security and server upgrades mentioned in a previous announcement, clients on our CPanel plans will soon only be able to login to CPanel & Webmail through a secure login page. Therefore the old login URL you used to use will be phased out in the coming weeks.

The new logins will depend on which server your website is installed on. Please check your Account information email that we initially sent you when the account was first setup, which should display the server you are on. If you don't have access to this, you can also try logging into to each server using trial and error, which will tell then you the server you are on.

The login links to both CPanel and Webmail can now be found on our updated login pages. The links to these pages can be found below.

RSS Subscribe Email authentication issue at Auckland datacentre - Resolved
Posted on 13/12/11 09:41AM

There was an email authentication issue this morning that appears to have been caused by a hardware failure on our providers primary email storage node. They brought up secondary node and to restore full services, and are investigating why the primary one failed.

No data has been lost and there is no need to reset your email password. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. The issue only affected users ability to connect to the email server.

The email authentication issue is now resolved, with full services restored.

We hope this didn't cause too much inconvenience. Our engineers are currently investigating the cause of the hardware problem on the node and will work to ensure the services are as reliable as possible in future.

As a result of this, we have asked our providers to provide us with a realtime feed showing the network status and realtime announcements and updates of any issues directly at the datacentre. We hope they will implement something like this soon, which will keep our clients more informed of any issues when they occur.

RSS Subscribe Spamcop spam scanning service failure affecting some email accounts
Posted on 01/02/21 11:00AM

Dear Customers,
Please note that due to a Spamcop spam scanning service failure, our upstream providers are experiencing an email sending outage on some of the email accounts. This is a Global issue affecting email providers all over the world that use Spam Cop. It is affecting the New Zealand based hosting network, and as Spamcop is a third party service, it is outside of our upstream providers control. Our upstream providers technical team are monitoring the situation closely and have been assured by their third party provider that it should be corrected soon however there is no ETA on this. This page will be updated.

This appears to have now been resolved. Apparently the cause was Cisco / Spamcops domain expiring, and a delay by Cisco in renewing it. Due to this, it resulted in propagation delays across the internet and during this time some emails were bouncing any others weren't . It is still possible that some emails from some email providers may still bounce depending on when they last flushed their DNS cache. This should correct itself over the next few days as DNS caches update themselves across all providers around the world. Cisco and Spamcop are a third party spam filtering service that email providers all over the world use to reduce the amount of spam that email servers get, so this has affected email users and providers all over the world.

Please note that this email outage issue is now resolved. Cisco, the upstream provider with the SpamCop email solution acknowledged fault due to a domain expiry. Read more at https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/spamcop-anti-spam-service-suffers-an-outage-after-its-domain-expired/

Thank you.

RSS Subscribe Wellington Earthquakes and Office disruptions
Posted on 14/11/16 01:36PM

As you may already know Wellington and upper parts of the South Island were rocked by a severe earthquake this morning, causing quite a bit of damage. The regions continues to be rocked by severe aftershocks. We hope everyone is safe and ok across NZ.

Our main office has been disrupted by the Wellington earthquakes. As a result of the quakes, we have had periods of no power or internet  access. So this may affect our ability to respond to enquiries during this time. We may have more power outages as aftershocks continue to strike our offices.

Our web hosting services however are not affected in anyway. The servers are housed in professional datacentres in Auckland, Wellington and overseas, and are designed to withstand these types of earthquakes. So please bear with us during this time.
