All the servers we use are hosted by professional datacentres, and managed 24x7 by their professional technicians and server administrators. In the event of a web hosting problem with one of the servers or server networks, it may not immediately appear on this page, however the datacentre technicians will usually have already identified the issue, and will be working on resolving it as soon as they can. Please don't be alarmed if there currently appears to be an issue with a server, but it doesn't yet appear on this page, as we operate this page independently from the datacentres. This page will also normally only be updated during normal New Zealand business hours.

If you are experiencing an issue with your Website Hosting or Email, please also check our Troubleshooting Your Website FAQs or our Troubleshooting Your Email FAQs, to make sure that the problem isn't at your end or with your ISP, home/office network, or your computer..

RSS Subscribe PCI Compliance and Server Updates for CPanel Premium Plans
Posted on 12/12/11 06:32PM

Scope of Work: PCI Compliance
Time: From 10:00PM PST (GMT -8:00) Friday December 16, 2011.

-------------------------------------
PCI Compliance is becoming a standard across all sites handling credit card transactions. For PCI compliance, several reputed agencies like Security Metrics conduct scans on servers hosting the particular website requiring PCI compliance. In most scan results, port 3306 comes up as a security vulnerability. Port 3306 is assigned to MySQL database server for inbound and outbound access. However, allowing inbound connections to port 3306 is now considered risky since attackers can gain access to the database.

So, in light of the continuous listing of port 3306 as a security vulnerability in PCI scans, direct public access to port 3306 will not be available. However, to access your databases, clients can add their IP to the remote hosts allow file in their respective cpanel. This will give you the same access you had before, but just in a more secure and protected environment.

The aforementioned issue is the biggest client facing issue we see. This is why we want to give you advanced notice of this system change. You will have this week to add your IP, or have your client's add their IP addresses in their respective cpanels as stated earlier. There are additional issues as well, such as Weak SSL ciphers will be disabled, openssh will be upgraded. Apache will also be recompiled and upgraded. This will not be service affecting, as we have a template and a rollout schedule planned.

We have many servers already compliant, but this notice will be for everyone else.

The other issue will be logging into CPanel. We will be posting new secure links for CPanel when they are available.

RSS Subscribe Fantastico to be replaced by Softaculous
Posted on 11/12/11 07:16PM

Over teh comping months Fantastico will be replaced by Softaculous on our Premium CPanel hosting plans. Our providers believe it is a much better replacement, as Fantastico took a very long time to update their scripts and was often installing old versions of the open source software. Softaculous does a much better job of updating, and not only that, it has about 150 more scripts in it, so if anything, it's a better system all the way around. It may take some time for Softaculous to appear on all servers.

Telecom / Xtra, so they can provide support to you.

RSS Subscribe International Domain Name Scam doing the rounds again
Posted on 31/10/11 04:31PM

We have been informed that a "pro forma invoices" scam for international domain names is currently doing the rounds again. This happens on a yearly basis, and this sort of scam has been going on for the last 10 years, and we have had many clients who have received these types of letters in the past.

In this case, we are aware of people who have received a letter via snail mail called "Domain Name Expiration Notice" from an American company, who appears to be based out of Australia. They appear to be going through the Whois database and getting domain owners' data to send these letters out.

If you receive these letters, DO NOT PAY IT. If you follow the instructions in the invoice, you risk becomng a victim of the scam. Not only will they bill you more than we charge, you are also giving them authority to transfer your domain name to their management, where you could lose control of it.

The only domain renewal notices you should take notice of, are ones that are sent from us, the Lounge Network. We send them via email prior to the expiration of a domain.

The only other organisation who may contact you once a year , are our domain providers SRSPLUS (http://www.srsplus.com). They will only contact you to confirm that all your contact details associated with your domain are correct, as all domain clients are required to keep their contact details up to date under the domain name terms or service.

You can always renew and manage your domain online via our NZ Domain Manager system at http://www.domains.loungenetwork.co.nz

An example copy of the letter you may receive is below. PLEASE IGNORE IT.

RSS Subscribe Spamcop spam scanning service failure affecting some email accounts
Posted on 01/02/21 11:00AM

Dear Customers,

Please note that due to a Spamcop spam scanning service failure, our upstream providers are experiencing an email sending outage on some of the email accounts. This is a Global issue affecting email providers all over the world that use Spam Cop. It is affecting the New Zealand based hosting network, and as Spamcop is a third party service, it is outside of our upstream providers control. Our upstream providers technical team are monitoring the situation closely and have been assured by their third party provider that it should be corrected soon however there is no ETA on this. This page will be updated.

--UPDATE--

This appears to have now been resolved. Apparently the cause was Cisco / Spamcops domain expiring, and a delay by Cisco in renewing it. Due to this, it resulted in propagation delays across the internet and during this time some emails were bouncing any others weren't . It is still possible that some emails from some email providers may still bounce depending on when they last flushed their DNS cache. This should correct itself over the next few days as DNS caches update themselves across all providers around the world. Cisco and Spamcop are a third party spam filtering service that email providers all over the world use to reduce the amount of spam that email servers get, so this has affected email users and providers all over the world.

--UPDATE--

Please note that this email outage issue is now resolved. Cisco, the upstream provider with the SpamCop email solution acknowledged fault due to a domain expiry. Read more at https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/spamcop-anti-spam-service-suffers-an-outage-after-its-domain-expired/

Thank you.

RSS Subscribe Wellington Earthquakes and Office disruptions
Posted on 14/11/16 01:36PM

As you may already know Wellington and upper parts of the South Island were rocked by a severe earthquake this morning, causing quite a bit of damage. The regions continues to be rocked by severe aftershocks. We hope everyone is safe and ok across NZ.

Our main office has been disrupted by the Wellington earthquakes. As a result of the quakes, we have had periods of no power or internet  access. So this may affect our ability to respond to enquiries during this time. We may have more power outages as aftershocks continue to strike our offices.

Our web hosting services however are not affected in anyway. The servers are housed in professional datacentres in Auckland, Wellington and overseas, and are designed to withstand these types of earthquakes. So please bear with us during this time.
