All the servers we use are hosted by professional datacentres, and managed 24x7 by their professional technicians and server administrators. In the event of a web hosting problem with one of the servers or server networks, it may not immediately appear on this page, however the datacentre technicians will usually have already identified the issue, and will be working on resolving it as soon as they can. Please don't be alarmed if there currently appears to be an issue with a server, but it doesn't yet appear on this page, as we operate this page independently from the datacentres. This page will also normally only be updated during normal New Zealand business hours.

If you are experiencing an issue with your Website Hosting or Email, please also check our Troubleshooting Your Website FAQs or our Troubleshooting Your Email FAQs, to make sure that the problem isn't at your end or with your ISP, home/office network, or your computer..

RSS Subscribe Scheduled Maintenance: SQL Server Migration
Posted on 27/10/11 02:37PM

Our SQL 2000 Service, mssql.mydns.net.nz will be retired on Friday 18 November 2011. This decision has been made because SQL 2000 is over 10 years old and we can no longer support the software, or the hardware providing the service. All current SQL 2000 databases will be migrated to a replacement server running the latest version of Microsoft SQL, SQL 2008 R2 unless we are advised otherwise.

There will be an outage for all customers during the migration, this is scheduled to take place at the time & date below:

Impacted System: MSSQL.MYDNS.NET.NZ
Start Time: 18/11/2011 00:00 NZDT
End Time: 18/11/2011 04:00 NZDT

Connectivity:
All customers should be using the DNS name (connection string) mssql.mydns.net.nz to connect to their database. No other connection string is supported. The IP address that this resolves to will be moved to the replacement server at the time of the migration. The following legacy DNS aliases will be updated and will continue to work, however these will be retired in the medium term and should not be used.

winbox.mydns.net.nz
webadmin.mydns.net.nz

Impact:

Access to databases on mssql.mydns.net.nz will be unavailable during this maintenance window. Websites attempting to retrieve information from databases on this server during this time will return an error. No data will be lost. All databases will be backed up and transferred to the replacement server.
The majority of customers should not notice any change once the databases have been migrated to SQL 2008 R2, apart from improved performance. Databases will be left in SQL 2000 compatibility mode to minimise disruption. You may change this setting on your database after the migration to take advantage of the new functionality provide by SQL 2008 R2. We have identified a limited number of customers whose databases will have compatibility issues with the new version and they will be contacted directly. We would however advise all customers to check that their database will be compatible with SQL 2008 R2. You can do this by testing a copy of your database on your own SQL 2008 R2 instance, or by using the test instance we have setup as detailed below.

Testing:

Customers wishing to test their database in advance can do so using a copy of their database which has been restored onto a temporary SQL 2008 R2 instance. This database will be restored from 25/10/2011. The test instance can be connected to using the address below. The instance will only be available up until the day of the migration and is provided for testing purposes only.

sql2k8r2test.mydns.net.nz

We thank you for your understanding while this work is completed, and apologise for any inconvenience caused. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any queries.

RSS Subscribe Email outage at Albany datacentre
Posted on 18/10/11 01:32PM

This announcement only applies to our Corporate and Business plan users

There is currently an email outage with our upstream providers.
Our providers are working to resolve this. There are authentication issues and that means that your mail client will ask to re-enter your password. We request that you do not enter any password and cancel that prompt as the outage is at the datacentre and when the issue is resolved, you won't have that pop up.

UPDATE: ISSUE RESOLVED 1:30pm

The outage started at 1PM and service resumed at 1:30PM. The mail storage locked-up at 100% usage and needed a reboot to recover. At the moment our providers suspect an Operating System error as all hardware is reported as being OK. Our providers will continue to monitor the service.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The PHP 5.3 cluster is now fully provisioned in our shared cluster hosting, for clients on our Premium Corporate and Business Class hosting plans. The IP address for this cluster is 119.47.114.163 - you'll see this as a domain template: "Default (Linux PHP5.3) (New)"

This has been running for a few weeks now, and shows great performance and stability. This cluster will soon become the default for new sites. If you use PHP extensively you might like to familiarise yourself with the new service. There are a couple of extra benefits on the 5.3 cluster:

This can be turned off on a per site basis using .htaccess -

php_flag apc.cache_by_default Off

Google Page Speed

RSS Subscribe Paymex credit card payments not being processed
Posted on 28/09/11 01:14PM

Our credit card payment provider Paymex has announced that they are no longer processing credit cards due to being closed down by their bank. Therefore we have had to disable the credit card payment option in our domain manager system. We do still accept payment by direct credit, online banking and cheque.
If you have a domain that is due to expire within the next week, and you don't think you will be able to make payment in time, please contact us. We do recommend renewing domains well before the expiry date so there is no risk of them expiring.

RSS Subscribe Spamcop spam scanning service failure affecting some email accounts
Posted on 01/02/21 11:00AM

Dear Customers,

Please note that due to a Spamcop spam scanning service failure, our upstream providers are experiencing an email sending outage on some of the email accounts. This is a Global issue affecting email providers all over the world that use Spam Cop. It is affecting the New Zealand based hosting network, and as Spamcop is a third party service, it is outside of our upstream providers control. Our upstream providers technical team are monitoring the situation closely and have been assured by their third party provider that it should be corrected soon however there is no ETA on this. This page will be updated.

--UPDATE--

This appears to have now been resolved. Apparently the cause was Cisco / Spamcops domain expiring, and a delay by Cisco in renewing it. Due to this, it resulted in propagation delays across the internet and during this time some emails were bouncing any others weren't . It is still possible that some emails from some email providers may still bounce depending on when they last flushed their DNS cache. This should correct itself over the next few days as DNS caches update themselves across all providers around the world. Cisco and Spamcop are a third party spam filtering service that email providers all over the world use to reduce the amount of spam that email servers get, so this has affected email users and providers all over the world.

--UPDATE--

Please note that this email outage issue is now resolved. Cisco, the upstream provider with the SpamCop email solution acknowledged fault due to a domain expiry. Read more at https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/spamcop-anti-spam-service-suffers-an-outage-after-its-domain-expired/

Thank you.

RSS Subscribe Wellington Earthquakes and Office disruptions
Posted on 14/11/16 01:36PM

As you may already know Wellington and upper parts of the South Island were rocked by a severe earthquake this morning, causing quite a bit of damage. The regions continues to be rocked by severe aftershocks. We hope everyone is safe and ok across NZ.

Our main office has been disrupted by the Wellington earthquakes. As a result of the quakes, we have had periods of no power or internet  access. So this may affect our ability to respond to enquiries during this time. We may have more power outages as aftershocks continue to strike our offices.

Our web hosting services however are not affected in anyway. The servers are housed in professional datacentres in Auckland, Wellington and overseas, and are designed to withstand these types of earthquakes. So please bear with us during this time.
